“My career has taken me to the grandest stages—from Beijing to London, Rio, and Tokyo. Yet, my love for the game goes beyond just playing it; it's about the legacy one leaves behind, which is why I transitioned from being an athlete to a coach.”

Inspiration to Give Back

Throughout his career, Shea found immense joy in coaching and mentoring his teammates. 

“There is something deeply fulfilling about helping others grow, seeing them succeed, and knowing that I played a small part in their journey. When I hung up my boots, it was only natural to step into a role where giving back could be a permanent part of my life.”  

Coaching has become his new playing field, as a natural transition to channel all the knowledge and experience he’s gathered over the years, including playing in 4 Olympics. 

The Birth of Inside Hockey

Shea’s brand, Inside Hockey, is a reflection of everything that lies beneath the surface of the game. Hockey, like any sport, is about much more than what meets the eye. There are layers of strategy, skill, mental toughness, and passion that contribute to what happens on the field. Inside Hockey stands for exploring and understanding these deeper aspects of the game—what's "inside" it.

Shea is now focused on educating and supporting future players. 

“I want those who engage with our content to walk away with a deeper understanding of the game and a feeling that they're not alone in their journey. “It's a dream that requires dedication, ongoing learning, and a lot of hard work. But with each step I take in the sports education community, I feel more prepared to take on that challenge. As I continue to develop my brand and expand our offerings, I see my role in the community evolving into one that not only educates but also inspires and leads.”

This mindset has carried me through the highs and lows of my career, and it's the message I hope to pass on to every athlete I coach. No matter the obstacles you face, your resilience and determination will be your greatest assets.
