Oklahoma City professional basketball team reportedly will be called the Thunder. Also reported is that the NBA has registered okcthunderbasketball.com and okcthunderbasketball.net with the league office.

Let me get this straight. We have the Suns, the Heat and now the Thunder? Now it would be inconsiderate to name a team with any Native American connotation. They may be offended. We have plenty of animals for mascots. The Bulls, the Grizzlies and the Timberwolves to name a few.

Has global warming been the catalyst for these Mother Nature type namings? Got to be careful she might get offended and unleash a bigger fury than ever seen. We are treading towards the climate names. What’s next, the Tornados? Oh no that can’t work, someone who has experienced a T-storm might get their feelings hurt.

What will this caricature of Thunder look like? Will it be dark clouds? Can’t be. That is not thunder that is dark clouds. Will it be lightning? Then they should have been named Lightning.
