Smells like Roses in Chicago
By Knup • Jun 27th, 2008 • Category: Featured, Lead Story, National Basketball Association •The Bulls are elated to have hometown native Derrick Rose joining them this fall. Chicago picked rose with the 1st overall pick in last nights NBA draft. The Heat followed this up with Michael Beasley, who should help them considerably right from the start. With the 3rd pick, the Timberwolves picked OJ Mayo only to trade him down later in the draft.
So a lot of people are asking me if Derrick Rose to the Bulls makes them a contender. I say, no way. The Bulls still just don’t have quite what it takes to make it to the top. No superstar and a huge surplus of guards. They have the assets to package something together and bring in a superstar - but until they do that - they will just be 1st/2nd round exiters each year in the playoffs. Rose might be a special point guard, but not the type of impact player that immediately puts teams in Championship contention.
